Pasta Time

A classic staple point in many college students diet is a great pasta dish. Pasta is a great meal that is relatively easy to make and delicious to eat. It's also something that is a decently cheap meal to make, but is expensive to eat at restaurants. Any time I want pasta, I don't think about going to Olive Garden and spending $20 on a pasta plate. I don't even want to spend $15 on it at a place like Baris. When I want pasta, I now know that I can create a great dish at home.

The great thing about pasta is you can create a multitude of dishes with many of the same ingredients. You can add chicken, beef, or shrimp to your pasta, or change it up with any new or unique sauce. You can also create new textures and flavors by buying different kinds of noodles. Here's a website that lists noodles and what they are best used for: Pasta Noodles. For my pasta recipe that I made this week, I used the following ingredients:

  • Penne pasta noodles
  • Chicken Breasts
  • Marinera Sauce
  • Alfredo sauce
With just a few ingredients I was able to create a simple, yet delicious meal. I started by cooking the chicken in a pan over some olive oil. Once the chicken is cooked, I added both marinera and alfredo sauce to the chicken. Then I added the noodles and let it simmer altogether.

This meal was a super quick and filling meal that provided two dinners for me this week. In order to have some more variety you can cook your noodles in a separate pot and add different sauces on-top of them for different meals.

Pasta provides a great solution to a filling and delicious meal. The next time you feel like pasta but don't want to spend a lot of money on it, I'd encourage you to try something homemade.
